Kim is interested in the basic yet impactful visual symbols, constructed of simple marks, textures, balance of light and darkness that elicit a shared human emotional experience.  Painting, drawing and mixed media collage allow her to experiment with the deconstruction and reconstruction of fundamental shapes and emblems.  While making this series, Kim was significantly influenced by Dr. Cornel West's Master Class recordings on his deeply held beliefs on the pursuit of beauty in the world, love, the importance of hope, personal authenticity and the great value of music and art in the evolution of social justice.
